For specific safety information on each fertiliser, refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Each MSDS contains more detailed information on the physical and chemical properties of the fertiliser. They include first aid information, what to do in case of a spill and safe transport guidelines.
Incitec Pivot Fertilisers’ range of EASY Liquids® can offer safety advantages to farmers over bulk fertilisers. Farmers using EASY Liquids will not need to manually lift and carry fertiliser bags in the process of dissolving soluble fertilisers in water, reducing the risk of injuries.
All fertilisers in the EASY Liquids range, except Coppersol, are classified as Non Dangerous Goods by the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission.
The major safety precautions necessary when handling EASY Liquids revolve around avoiding splashes to the eyes and skin, inhalation and ingestion.
As a precaution, it is best to wear long sleeves and long trousers, safety glasses, protective shoes or boots and impervious gloves when handling EASY Liquids and to wash your clothing after use.
After handling EASY Liquids, wash your hands before smoking, eating, drinking or using the toilet.
If you come into contact with EASY Liquids, wash the affected area with copious quantities of water, remove any contaminated clothing and consider seeking medical advice.
If you injest or swallow EASY Liquids, you must immediately seek medical advice. For further advice, also contact a Poisons Information Centre.
Prevention is better than cure, so take care to avoid splashes or spills when transferring EASY Liquids. Such precautions should include:
- Ensuring there is an open pipe after pumps in pump and spray systems.
- Ensuring all connections are secure before transferring fertilisers.
- Using retainer clips on camlock couplings.
- Checking for blockages in the pump lines and spray nozzles.
Also avoid breathing in EASY Liquids’ mists or vapours. When working closely with Mangasol, Coppersol, EASY PK or EASY ATS, you should use an organic vapour/particulate respirator.
Storage
As with other farm chemicals, EASY Liquids must be stored safely and out of the reach of children. Be particularly careful with:
- Zincsol and Coppersol, which are S6 poisons and must be stored, maintained and used in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
- EASY Cal, Mangasol and Coppersol, which are harmful if swallowed.
Transport
Coppersol is the only EASY Liquid classified as a dangerous Goods under the Australian Dangerous Goods Code for transport by road and rail. More information on transporting Coppersol can be found on the Material Safety Data Sheet.
